Bare-headed bust left with a long, pointed beard, wearing a double-banded diadem with a prominent loop at the top and three pendant ends. The figure wears an earring and a spiral torque; all within a dotted border. Archer (Arsaces I) seated right on a stylized throne, holding a bow in his right hand. Below the bow is a cross symbol (+) and the Ecbatana mint monogram (ligature of A and T). Surrounded by a highly blundered, seven-line Greek inscription arranged in a square.
The Parthian Empire during the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD experienced significant internal strife and contested successions. Drachms of this specific type have traditionally been attributed to Vologases III (c. AD 105-147). Modern scholarship frequently reassigns them to Pacorus II (c. AD 78-120). These silver coins were struck primarily at the kingdom's main mint in Ecbatana.
