Persian Nasta'liq inscription reading 'bandah shah wilayat husayn' (Slave of the King of Holiness, Husayn). The word 'yat' forms a prominent horizontal sweep across the center, with the fields decorated by small rosettes and tri-dot clusters. Below the central sweep are the ruler's name 'Husayn' and the word 'bandah'. At the bottom, the mint formula 'zarb Tabriz' (Struck at Tabriz) and the Hijri date 1134 are visible. Dotted border partially visible. Shi'a Kalima in Arabic script in three lines at the center ('La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah, Ali wali Allah'), interspersed with small floral motifs. The central text is enclosed by a polylobed border. The outer marginal compartments contain the names of the Twelve Shi'a Imams, with several names such as Ja'far and Musa clearly legible along the lower edge.
Sultan Husayn (ruled 1694-1722) was a Safavid Shah of Iran known for his deep religious devotion and architectural patronage. Lacking the administrative and military acumen of his predecessors, his reign was marked by growing internal unrest and imperial decline. His rule ended disastrously when Afghan rebels under Mahmud Hotak besieged and captured the capital, Isfahan, effectively triggering the collapse of the Safavid Empire.
