Diademed and draped bust of king left, wearing a tall tiara with ear flaps, vertical ridges, and a beaded crest; the diadem features a prominent double loop and long pendant ends. The king has a long, sharply pointed beard, a visible earring, and a segmented necklet; dotted border. Archer (Arsaces) seated right on throne, holding a bow in his extended right hand; Ecbatana monogram below bow. Surrounded by a square-shaped blundered Greek legend, with the top line rendered in Aramaic script ([HWṢRW MLK]).
Osroes II was a rival claimant to the throne of the Parthian Empire who rebelled around AD 190 during the later years of Vologases IV's reign. He successfully took control of Media, evidenced by his coinage struck at the mint of Ecbatana. His rebellion was short-lived, and he was likely defeated by Vologases V, who reunified the empire. Osroes II is virtually unknown to history outside of his numismatic record.
